Salem’s Ministries, Committees, Org’s and Teams
Circle
The women’s circle meets for Bible study and fellowship once a month at 10:00am on the 2nd Tuesday of the month. In the Fall the circle invites the congregation to give to create personal care kits and school kits to help children and families around the world through Lutheran World Relief. The circle’s presence in the congregation is one of fellowship, prayer, service, and a lot of laughter, and anyone would be blessed to be among them. Contact Dorothy Steckelberg for more details.

Deacon Timothy Siburg leads our choir of all ages. The next practice is in the last half of September. It will most likely be 1 hour long at 9:30 before Sunday worship at 10:30 in the sanctuary.
Council
Salem’s council is the representative decision-making body of our congregation. Each term is 4 years. Meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of the month with a consent agenda established the week prior. If you feel called or nudged by the Holy Spirit to put your name in to be considered for the open spots come January, let our any of our 8 council members know. Connect with council president Merry Muhsman if you have any questions or concerns.

Their “non-leader leader” is Sharon Brandt. They are always welcoming of new helpers and people who just want to do good in the community in Jesus’ name.

Sunday School
Our Sunday School co-leaders Mark Cone and Melanie Smith live out these words from Jesus: “Let the little children come to me” (Matthew 19:14). If your “tween” thinks they’re too cool to help at Sunday School, of, if you think your toddler is screeches too loud, know they both belong here. The Salem flock of kiddos for Sunday School is wide, welcoming, and they want you to know Jesus loves you. Sunday School starts September 7, 2025 at 10:30 during a blend of worship… connect with Mark or Melanie if you have any questions, and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
Vacation Bible School
Wow! The last two years of 5-day VBS have been hard to put into words. The positivity and faith of these kids was a sight to behold. If your child is Pre-6, or 7-12 (youth leaders), you won’t want to miss the next VBS. See their faith transform. Ask Lynne Walz or Koni Shallberg about how to get involved in next summer’s planning.
Wine and Wisdom
Hosted at the Wine Experience (owned by Salem members the Woods family), we meet the 1st Thursday of the month at 6:00pm. A faith topic is put on the table, and we do our best to discern God’s wisdom! Join us. It’s always a hoot. Contact Pastor Allison Siburg for questions or discussion topic ideas.
Women’s Bible Study
On the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month we have a women’s Bible study in the Salem library, 9:00-10:30am. Hosted by Merry Muhsman (council president and author!), we spend time these morning walking through the Bible together, and in this Fall 2026 season, with the book Ten Women of the Bible.
Women’s Retreat
Often in the lingering months of winter, the women’s retreat aims to provide a reboot to your faith, spiritual refreshment, treats, and fun in this one-day retreat. Each retreat is a joy, and with great thanks we partner with Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper, NE to make it happen. This year’s will be at Salem. In the past we have featured authors, local speakers, and an amazing local flower shop. You don’t want to miss the 2026 retreat. Connect with Merry Muhsman or Liesa Miller for any questions.
Worship and Music Committee
The Worship and Music committee meets the 3rd Sunday of the month after worship. We are a traditional church with blended backgrounds that make for a meaningful Sunday touchstone of the week. Join us for Sunday worship, and join the committee as they pray, plan, and attend to all the pieces of worship that reflect the congregation’s faith in Jesus.
Youth Group
Our youth have participated in a variety of events and formative faith experiences. When you hear about the meeting info - don’t miss out on the fun! In the past they have done bowling, Bible study, book study, ELCA youth gathering, and the Lutheran Youth of Nebraska gathering (LYON) of the Nebraska Synod, ELCA. Their meetings are TBD, but connect with DonDel Uhing or Deanne Snow for more information.
